During the mid twentieth century, just about everyone that left home for the day had a lunch box to take with them. Kids had those metal lunch boxes that usually had the picture of one of their favorite cartoon characters or movie stars on it. Those kinds of lunch boxes were so popular back then and they sold by the millions. Of course, even parents that went off to work were likely to have lunch boxes too, even though their’s might have been a plainer variety.
It is a much smarter idea to allow a child to help you pack their lunch for school. You want to put in food that you know they will like. Things like peanut butter and banana sandwiches are probably much healthier for them than some of the mystery processed meats they might be served at school. If a kid does not like broccoli at home, then they certainly will not eat broccoli at school! Kids like fun foods, but even fun foods can still be good tasting and nutritious.
Of course, kids are not nearly the only ones that use a lunch box. People that go to work in places where there might not be access to any other food usually do not have any choice except take their lunch. Construction workers and factory workers are known for having good lunch boxes because they can not always leave their job to go anywhere else to eat. Taking a lunch box to work is a great way to use up any left overs from dinner or supper the night before at home!
Health concerns are growing bigger everyday where our food is concerned. Restaurants, even good ones, can serve food that is so loaded with fat and calories, it is really unhealthy to eat it everyday. Packing your own lunch is the healthiest thing to do for you and your kids. Everyone can pack what they like the most and you know it will be good for all of you. Packing up lunches together at night or in the mornings is a great way to spend a few minutes of quality time as well.
It is wise to remember that anywhere there is food, there are bounds to be germs and bacteria as well. Keep your lunch box clean by using a disinfecting cleaner when you use it. Even if you use closed containers or storage bags for your food, at least wipe down the inside with a disinfectant wipe. It is better to be safe any time you are dealing with food. This way you lunch will be delicious and healthy every time.
